DER WEG DES GERINGSTEN WIDERSTANDES (‘The path of least resistance’), prototype1994 A buoy structure is mounted to float and move freely along the centreline of a water-filled, annular channel by means of linkage struts. It forms the support system for a curved metal sail. Inclined obliquely towards the centre-point of the pivoted construction, the sail, seeking the path of least resistance, evades the pressure of the wind by moving forward until, at a certain angle, wind forces striking it frontally and laterally cancel each other out in equilibrium. |
